The recent action film Bad Boys: Ride or Die earned $9.5 million at the Middle East box office over its opening weekend.

This set a new record for the highest-grossing opening of the Bad Boys franchise across the region.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die is the fourth film in the series.

Blockbuster debut for Bad Boys

The Bad Boys films follow detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) of the Miami Police Department through their exploits.

After premieres in Dubai and Riyadh, the global debut earned over $105 million worldwide by Monday, surpassing initial projections of $100 million.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE saw particularly strong performances, with estimated totals of $4 million and $2.9 million respectively, representing a 78 percent increase on the previous installment.

“To celebrate the release of the movie, Miami’s finest Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are seen stopping to get popcorn and check out the latest blockbuster at VOX Cinemas Mall of the Emirates. The 60-second spot was shot while the iconic duo were in the Middle East as part of their international press tour and sees them driving a Porsche, the car driven by their characters Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett in the adrenaline-fuelled franchise. Scenes from the shoot were shared by both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence on their Instagram pages,” Majid Al Futtaim said in an emailed statement on Tuesday.
