Bahrain: Nominations Open for 2023 UNESCO-King Hamad Prize for Use of ICT in Education

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has announced that it is accepting nominations and applications for the 2023 UNESCO-King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) in Education.

On the occasion, Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Education Minister, underscored the importance of the international prize, which carries the name of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, in supporting innovative projects and promoting the creative use of technologies to enhance learning, teaching and overall educational performance in the digital age, commensurate with the requirements of sustainable development and in order to enhance the quality of education.

The minister revealed that the theme of the 2023 edition is “Digital learning for greening education”, adding that the new edition keeps pace with the latest global trends by encouraging synergies between public digital learning and green education, and by showcasing the best practices in this field.

According to UNESCO, the 2023 Prize will recognise “projects that design and deploy digital technologies, appropriately and ethically, to create inclusive and engaging learning experiences centered around the critical topic of climate change.”

“It prioritises digital learning projects grounded in rigorous needs assessment while giving due consideration to the domain-specific nature of climate education, learners’ interests, and local contexts. To leverage the full potential of digital learning, pedagogical methodologies should also be adapted to meet the needs of climate education and foster climate actions among learners,” UNESCO added.

UNESCO set February 5, 2024 as the deadline for submitting nominations.

The prize distribution ceremony will be held in mid-2024.
