Bahrain: Kitchen Factory Ordered To Pay BD 28,000 To Former Employee

The High Labour Court obligated a kitchen factory to pay BD28,000 to a former employee, whose total dues have been settled after his resignation. According to the case reports, the defendant joined the company as a sales manager in 2008 on a monthly salary of BD640 and a housing allowance of BD180 per month. He, however, resigned in June 2022 and requested an accounting expert to calculate his outstanding dues.

Representatives of the defendant told judges that the plaintiff’s basic salary was BD300, and his housing allowance was BD250, confirming that he was entitled to receive a bonus, but its value was decreased due to the losses the company suffered because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Court said that the company didn’t provide evidence of paying the plaintiff’s salary until July 16, 2022, and didn’t share anything that proves that he used all his days off.

The Court also underlined that the defendant failed to pay the plaintiff a bonus worth BD15,495 and his indemnity for working more than 14 years. As a result, the Court ruled in favour of the plaintiff, obligating the company to pay BD28,025.
