The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) announced the implementation of 1,411 inspection campaigns and visits, during the period of 21 July to 3 August 2024, which resulted in the detention of 100 violating and irregular workers, while 350 violators were deported. The inspection campaigns and visits also resulted in monitoring a number of violations related to the provisions of a number of regulating laws, especially the Labour Market Regulatory Authority and the Residency Laws in the Kingdom of Bahrain, noting that legal measures were taken regarding the observed violations. The authority pointed out that 1,378 inspection visits were carried out on various shops in all governorates, in addition to 33 joint inspection campaigns, that included 23 campaigns in the Capital Governorate; 3 campaigns in the Muharraq Governorate; 5 campaigns in the Northern Governorate, and 2 campaigns in the Southern Governorate. Student Hassan Majeed Aman from Isa Town Secondary Boys School has won the bronze medal in the first International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) at New Clark City, Philippines. The Olympiad was held from July 31 to August 6, and supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education, congratulated the student on this international achievement, which reflects the level of talent and creativity in the schools of Bahrain. The minister also expressed his appreciation to the educational specialists and teachers for preparing and training the Bahraini students participating in the competition. Man On Trial For Assault Causing Permanent Injury After Sister’s Minor Car Accident
The High Criminal Court has commenced the trial of a young man accused of assaulting another individual, resulting in a permanent 10% disability to the victim’s jaw. The incident arose from a minor collision between the victim’s car and the defendant’s sister’s vehicle. After the collision, the victim approached the defendant’s sister, who claimed he had yelled at her. The defendant, upon hearing his sister’s account, arrived at the scene and immediately punched the victim in the face. The prosecution alleges that the defendant, within the jurisdiction of the Southern Governorate Police Station, assaulted the victim, causing a permanent 10% disability without intending to inflict such harm. The victim filed a complaint stating that he was near a refrigerator warehouse in the Southern Governorate when his car was rear-ended. He exited his vehicle to speak with the driver, discovering it was a young woman. The victim contacted his father, who arrived with the woman’s brother. Expatriate workers entering Bahrain will now receive IBANs as part of a new scheme by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), in collaboration with the Central Bank of Bahrain and the private sector. His Excellency Nibras Mohammed Talib, CEO of the LMRA and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, explained that this initiative aims to enhance digital banking transactions, safeguarding all parties involved by facilitating wage payments through banking channels. The issuance of IBANs for expatriate workers arriving via Bahrain International Airport (BAH) began at the start of August, as part of a coordinated effort with the private sector. This measure is intended to provide additional support to employers in implementing digital wage payments. It ensures proper documentation of payment transactions, reduces legal disputes related to wage payments, and speeds up the resolution of litigation cases. Talib mentioned that upon arrival at Bahrain International Airport, expatriate workers will be informed about the option to activate the bank account linked to the issued IBAN, allowing them to make the most out of this service. Bahrain Economy Grows 3.3% In Q1 As Tourism And IT Thrive
Bahrain’s economy expanded by 3.3 per cent in the first three months of the year, according to the Ministry of Finance and National Economy in its Economic Quarterly Report for Q1 of 2024. The report shows continued momentum in the non-oil economy, driven by strong growth in key sectors, in line with Bahrain’s broader economic plan. According to preliminary data from the Information and eGovernment Authority (IGA), the Kingdom of Bahrain’s economy grew by 3.3 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in real terms in Q1 of 2024, underpinned by growth in both the non-oil sector 3.3 per cent YoY and oil sector 3.4 per cent YoY. A 50-year-old man is facing charges of arson after mistakenly setting fire to the wrong car, a case that unfolded with the help of security footage and a discarded glove. 50-Year-Old Man Faces Court Decision On Trademark Forgery Case
A 50-year-old man accused of forging commercial documents is awaiting a court decision on his appeal. The High Appeals Court has scheduled August 18th for the verdict. The defendant had previously been convicted by the lower court and sentenced to three years in prison and a fine of 5,000 Bahraini Dinars. The case stems from an incident where the defendant, who works as a clearance agent, deceived a shop owner by claiming to register his trademark for a fee of 800 Bahraini dinars. However, the defendant forged a genuine trademark registration certificate issued by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce altering the details to reflect the shop owner’s trademark. When the shop owner attempted to complete the remaining registration procedures at the ministry, he discovered the certificate was fraudulent. He then filed a complaint with the authorities.
