UAE: Sheikh Mohammed Announces Moon Mission as Work Begins on Rashid Rover 2

The UAE is working on a new mission to the moon, said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The UAE’s attempt to land on the moon did not succeed, after Japan’s HAKUTO-R Mission 1 Lunar Lander carrying the Rashid Rover buggy lost contact with mission controllers.

Although the Rashid Rover carrying the UAE flag now sits on the surface of the moon, Sheikh Mohammed said work would begin on a new rover.

Sheikh Mohammed said work has already started on a new Rashid 2 explorer to be used on a new attempt to reach the moon.

In a message on social media, Sheikh Mohammed said: “The mission of the spacecraft carrying the Rashid Rover did not succeed in landing on the Moon. However, we succeeded in raising the ceiling of our ambitions to reach the Moon.”
