The Emirates Astronomy Society has revealed the dates for Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr in 2024, based on the Islamic Hijri calendar. In Dubai, the first day of Ramadan will witness the Fajr (dawn) prayer at 05:14, while the Maghrib (sunset) prayer will be at 18:26.

This will come up to an approximate fasting duration of 13 hours and 12 minutes. Towards the end of Ramadan, the fasting period will slightly increase, as the Fajr prayer will be observed at 04:42 and Maghrib at 18:39, totaling about 13 hours and 57 minutes of fasting.

Traditionally, the beginning of Ramadan is confirmed by the UAE Moon sighting committee, who is also responsible for observing the sighting of the new crescent moon, which symbolises the beginning of the Holy month.

5-day UAE holiday for Eid Al Fitr

During the Islamic holy month, employees in the UAE can expect a reduction in work hours as per the country’s labour law.

While private sector employees typically work eight hours a day, this duration is reduced to six hours a day during the holy month.

However, it is important to note that certain workers may not be eligible for these reduced hours, and commuting time is generally not considered as part of working hours.

Moreover, the Eid Al Fitr holiday follows Ramadan, spanning from the 29th day of Ramadan to the 3rd day of Shawwal.

This year, it is expected that the people of the UAE will enjoy a potential five-day holiday, beginning from Monday, April 9, to Friday, April 12, if Ramadan 29 falls on April 9.

If that is the case, the holiday period will begin on Friday, April 5, and extend until April 14, with regular work resuming on Monday, April 15.

Islamic holy month is a time of profound spiritual reflection and heightened devotion for Muslims worldwide.
